A week ago the SEO community bid farewell to one of its pioneers, and I said goodbye to a friend. Eric Ward, aka Link Moses, died in his sleep, and with a blink of an eye the lives and industry he touched changed forever.
When it came to his craft, Eric was the best, hands down. What he didn’t know about link building, wasn’t worth learning. Period. When he spoke, smart people, listened to every word he spoke. He was that good.
Eric was much more than a master link builder though. He was a friend. On my first 60-minute consultation call with him, we clicked somehow, and we ended up speaking for five hours. We laughed, talked about links, our mutual love for baseball, Kirk Gibson, archery, goofy things we did as kids, and most of all, our families. After that first call, we started blocking three-hours for the calls, because of how often we got “off track.” After that, our friendship only grew.
When baseball season hit, I could always count on Eric sending me pictures of his sons’ playing. Noah played third base, and pitched, while Abram played outfield. The pride Eric felt for his children was evident, he knew what mattered, and what didn’t.
That is what I’m going to miss the most about him.
