Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program

The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering low-interest federal disaster loans for small businesses that have experienced an economic injury due to the Coronavirus.  If you are a small business owner in Michigan, applications are open for the Michigan Small Business Relief Program. The program is offering up to $20 million in both loans and grants that will provide an economic boost for small businesses in Michigan. Find out more here.

 Shopify Capital

 If your small business is already using Shopify and if you are eligible for funding from Shopify Capital, then you should automatically receive a loan to your account. If you are applying directly through Shopify for a loan, it can take roughly one week for your application to be processed. However, once you’re approved, the funds will appear in your account within two business days. You can learn more at Shopify Capital’s website.

 Washington State Department of Commerce: Collateral Support Program

 Small business owners in Washington state can apply for a loan through one of the state’s departments of commerce. They can receive a loan that otherwise might not have been available to them based on collateral. Find out more here.

 Loan Participation Program

The loan participation program is a nationwide program that allows small businesses to receive mid to long-term loans. The state acts as the lender, alongside a participating financial institution. See if your business qualifies here.

 SBA Microloans 

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) offers a Microloan program that provides loans up to $50,000 for small businesses and select not-for-profit childcare centers. On average, companies can receive $13,000 from the SBA. Learn more about microloans on their website.

Kiva is an online lending platform that serves low-income entrepreneurs and students across the globe. To support small businesses affected by COVID-19, they are working directly with small business owners in the U.S.

Kiva is a 501 non-profit organization that allows people to lend money via the Internet to low-income entrepreneurs and students in 77 countries. Kiva’s mission is “to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive.”

Facebook Small Business Grants Program

Note: Only in certain areas – Facebook is currently offering $100 million in grants and Facebook advertising credits. They have not started accepting applications yet but will be providing awards for up to 30,000 small businesses in over 30 countries. You can sign up for updates on when you can apply here.

 Amazon’s Neighborhood Small Business Relief Fund

 Note: This is only for Seattle and Bellevue – Amazon is offering grants to small businesses with less than 50 employees or who make less than $7 million yearly. The application is open and can be completed here.

 Yelp Announced $25 Million in Relief

Note: Only for restaurant and nightlife businesses and franchisees Yelp has announced that it will be providing $25 million in relief for small businesses across the U.S., Canada, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. You need to have less than five locations, though. Additionally, restaurants who are remaining open amidst the pandemic will receive free access to Yelp page upgrades, as well as three months of free Yelp Reservations and Waitlist. Furthermore, Yelp is providing $100 in free search advertising for restaurants who are offering delivery or takeout to help customers to practice social distancing.  More information about Yelps relief packages can be found here.

Small Business Relief Initiative

Note: Must also raise $500 through a GoFundMe campaign GoFundMe, along with Yelp and Intuit QuickBooks, is providing micro-grants to small businesses that were impacted negatively by COVID-19. These businesses are seeking to raise $1.5 million and use that money to distribute $500 in grants to qualifying companies. You can either donate or find out if your business qualifies here.

NYC Small Business Continuity Loan Grants

If you run a small business in New York City and have less than 5 employees, the city is offering grants to cover up to 40% of the business’s payroll cost for two months. Find out if you qualify here.

SBA Grants

Miami Mom and Pop Small Business Grant

Walmart Northwest Arkansas Grants

Walmart offers a grant for organizations in Northwest Arkansas. This grant is specifically for organizations interested in increasing community cohesion and/or improving access and availability to healthier foods. Qualifying organizations must either be a government organization, school, church or hold special tax exemptions.

ExxonMobil Foundation grants

The ExxonMobil Foundation offers several awards in many areas. Programs include working on the fight against malaria, funding STEM programs in schools, and promoting women in the workforce.

 Kuv Creative Impact Grant

 Kuv Creative offers its web services for free to qualifying businesses. These businesses should either be minority-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, or non-profit. The winning companies will be given 80 hours of free services and upkeep for a year after completion of the project.


Patrina Foundation Grants

The Patrina Foundation Grant supports programs for girls and women in the New York Metropolitan Area. The grant assists educational, cultural, and social services organizations. The program can be used for start-up, one-time expansion, or ongoing support.

StreetShares Commander’s Call Veteran Business Affairs grants

The StreetShares grants help veterans and their spouses in starting up and maintaining their businesses. The award is for any military veteran and will be given to three finalists.

A Grant for Greatness

The Grant for Greatness award helps arts programs in Western New York. Each year 25-35 $1,000 grants are awarded to non-profits in the arts and culture. Applicating organizations must have the arts and culture as their primary focus.

Activityhero Business Grant

Activityhero awards grants to businesses that provide camps, camps, or activities aimed at children. These grants can be used for operations or to ensure scholarship money. One grand prize winner will receive $100,000, and 7 finalists will receive $500 in services.

Fundera’s Zach Grant

The Zach Grant will award $2500 to one small business owner. To enter, you must submit a video answering the question, “Why did I start my own business?”

Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant

The Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant is designed to help the medical and educational needs of people in rural areas of the country. This grant provides money for local governments, tribal organizations, non-profits, for-profits, and Consortia eligible organizations. The funds can be used to provide infrastructure for broadband communications and other technological needs.

3D Elevation Grant

The USGS is offering grant money to aid in delivering 3D elevation data in the United States. The program funds research and equipment to collect this data for the United States government.

CyberTipline Grant

The CyberTipline Grant is from the Department of Homeland Security. The grant is designed to help in developing awareness of the Cyber Tipline, which works with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The award is intended for non-profits to aid in expanding access for people to report to the Cyber Tipline.

Wildlife Grant

The Wildlife Grant provides funds to state organizations with money to support conservation and preservation activities. This grant is not limited to actions to protect hunted or fished species. Funds must be used to support existing and approved Wildlife Action Plans.

Colorado Export Development Grant

The Colorado Export Development Grant is designed to help medium and small businesses to offset the cost of exporting goods. The grant will help with overseas marketing and business development costs.

D.C. Small and Local Business Grant

The D.C. Small and Local Business has multiple open grant opportunities for businesses in particular “wards” of the city. There are many grant opportunities on their Current Solicitations and Opportunities site. Many grants are focused on retail businesses that are revitalizing downtown neighborhoods.


Kickstarter allows artists to obtain funding for various projects. Users can request funding for projects in film, music, literature, the arts, gaming, and technology. Users simply set a financial goal and create a video explaining what their plan is. Most fundraisers provide tiered rewards for contributors.


Indiegogo allows crowdfunding for various entrepreneur projects. Funds can be used for production, marketing, R&D, and other expenses. Tiered rewards are usually offered to donors.


Patreon allows for creatives to connect with their fan community. Artists, musicians, podcasters, and many others can use Patreon to offer paid exclusive content to their subscribers. Patreon also provides resources for artists to create their own pages on the site to serve their needs.


Crowdfunder allows businesses in various industries to raise funds for their business. These can be large scale projects to smaller firms that need funding to get started. The site allows business owners to connect with investors to provide needed funding.

Funding Circle

Funding Circle is a site focused on small businesses. The site allows business owners to gain loans from groups of investors. Business owners can receive funds within 24 hours of their application.


Crowdcube works to connect small businesses with investors. They are specifically interested in companies looking to make their mark in the world.


GoGetFunding allows for instant access to funds when you need them. The program raises money for various businesses and causes. Members simply make a page, share, and begin accepting donations instantly.


Fundable allows for small businesses to gain needed start-up funds. Members can join from various industries to obtain funds to help to get their businesses going.

Free Hootsuite Plan

From now until July 1, 2020, users can take advantage of Hootsuite professional for free. Users can use Hootsuite social media management tools, as well as multiple video tutorials at no cost.

The Kansas JCP provides money to attract businesses to the state of Kansas. Funds are available over 5 years with benchmarks for the grantees.

Maryland Economic Development Assistance

The Maryland Chamber of Commerce provides many funds, assistance programs, and grants for state businesses. Funds can be used for development, start-up, and financial aid for companies. The Advantage Maryland program has a wide range of opportunities.

North Carolina IDEA

The North Carolina IDEA program provides many grants and supports for state entrepreneurs. The funds help to connect business owners with funds and investors to help to develop and innovate their businesses.

Illinois Recycling Expansion and Modernization Program

The REM Program awards matching grants to Illinois organizations and businesses to accomplish recycling market expansion and waste reduction goals, while demonstrating public economic benefits. The REM Program diverts materials from the solid waste stream, thereby conserving our natural resources while boosting the performance of Illinois businesses and organizations. ExportMD Program

The ExportMD Program helps to offset some of the costs of marketing internationally for Maryland’s small and mid-sized companies.  ??Qualifying companies will receive a $5,000 reimbursement for expenses of international marketing.

Minnesota REETAIN

REETAIN Bonuses reward early childhood educators who have demonstrated a commitment to the field by continuing their education and professional development. REETAIN Bonuses can be used for program supplies, training, or personal expenses.

Minnesota Innovation Voucher Award Program

The Innovation Voucher Award Program provides $5,000 to $25,000 awards to help small businesses purchase technical assistance and services necessary to advance research, development, or commercialization of new or innovative products and services. The funds are for eligible non-profits, colleges, and universities.

Minnesota Job Creation Fund

The Job Creation Fund provides money to qualifying industries. The program is available to businesses engaged in manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, technology-related industries, and other eligible activities. Companies must work with the local government where a project is located to apply to DEED to receive funding.

Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development

Ben Franklin Innovation Partnership

The Innovation Partnership (IPart) is a statewide consortium in Pennsylvania of economic development, business assistance, and higher education organizations that provide early-stage technology companies with free proposal writing assistance, training, and financial assistance.

Chicago IncentOvate

The Chicago Small Business Improvement Fund (SBIF) program uses Tax Increment Financing (TIF) revenues to help owners of commercial and industrial properties within specific TIF districts to repair or remodel their facilities for their own business or on behalf of tenants.

New York City Fashion Manufacturing Initiative

The NYC FMI is designed to support the New York fashion industry. Grants can be used for manufacturing equipment, capital, and technological needs, as well as relocation expenses.

Centers for Advanced Technology Grants in the Buffalo Niagara Region

The Buffalo Niagara region offers a variety of grants for companies that will be making a significant capital investment and adding or retaining employment.  Grant assistance is available for new facility construction, site and infrastructure work, equipment purchases, energy performance improvement, environmental performance improvements, working capital, and lease costs. Southeast Michigan Resilience Fund

By investing in green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) solutions, the Fund seeks to reduce flooding and other threats associated with major storm events. While also creating safe, dynamic, and enjoyable public green spaces that improve habitat values for wildlife and quality of life for residents. This program is for counties in Southeast Michigan.

New Mexico True CoOp Program

The New Mexico True CoOp Program provides financial incentives for businesses and organizations that promote tourism to the state of New Mexico. The CoOp program gives local non-profits, municipalities, and tribal governments a financial incentive to market what’s uniquely New Mexican about their event or location and even participate in existing advertising campaigns.

American Association of University Women Career Development Grant

The AAUW Career Development grant is for women who have a bachelor’s degree and are either pursuing further education, entering the workforce, or changing/advancing their careers. Eileen Fisher Grant Program

Tory Burch Fellowship Program

The Tory Burch Fellowship program allows for female business owners to connect and develop their business. Those accepted into the program will visit the Tory Burch offices, have a 1-year fellowship, a $5,000 grant, and a pitch day to pitch their business to investors. Cartier Women’s Initiative

The Cartier Women’s Initiative is dedicated to developing businesses for and by women. The initiative includes mentoring opportunities for young women as well as grants and funds for small business owners.

Women-Owned Small Businesses Federal Contracting Program

This program helps women-owned small businesses compete for federal contracts. The SBA also works with federal agencies to increase contracting opportunities and achieve the government’s five percent contracting goal for women-owned small businesses. For qualification information, visit the site.


Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business Program

This government program gives disabled veterans who own small businesses preference for specific government contracts. Business owners must have a service-connected disability to qualify.

Small Business Administration Veterans Entrepreneur Act of 2015

The V.E. Act allows veteran small business owners to waive application fees on specific loan programs. Veterans that own their own businesses can avoid fees on SBA loans.

7-Eleven Veterans Franchising

The SBIR allows for small businesses to work competitively for innovations that have commercial potential. Companies that are accepted into the program will work with the government in Research & Development of high-tech products.

National Science Foundation

The NSF is providing $1.75 million in seed money for businesses working on solutions to the COVID-19 pandemic. They also provide seed money for other scientific innovations that can be beneficial to society.

The Partnerships for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization (POWER) Initiative is an Obama Administration effort, involving multiple federal agencies. Small Business Administration 8(a) Certification Program
